Italian football powerhouses AS Roma and AC Milan to play Asia Pacific exclusive match in Perth

In partnership with the Western Australian Government, through Tourism WA, and Optus Stadium, Ticketmaster Australia is delighted to announce that Italian football giants AC Milan and AS Roma are to play exclusively in Perth.

Optus Stadium is set to host two of Italy’s most historic clubs, who will meet for their Asia Pacific exclusive Serie A friendly on Friday 31 May 2024.

It is the first time two Serie A teams will play each other in Australia. With both teams holding strong Australian fan bases, the match is expected to draw massive national and international visitors, injecting millions of dollars into Western Australia’s economy.

AC Milan, one of the most successful clubs in Italian Serie A history, boasts 19 league titles, five Coppa Italia titles, seven Italian Supercoppa titles and seven European Champions League titles.

AS Roma is one of the most famous Italian soccer clubs in the world and ninth place in the UEFA ranking. Founded in 1927, the club bears the traditional colours, symbol and name of the city in which it is based. The Giallorossi's history includes three Serie A titles, nine Coppa Italia titles, two Italian Super Cups, the Fairs Cup and a UEFA Europa Conference League.

Fans of both teams will have the chance to attend open training sessions, community clinics and fan engagement experiences while they are in Perth.

This match also marks the delivery of the first sporting content to be produced in Australia as a result of Ticketmaster Australia’s alliance with Tribal Sports, and our partnership with Optus Stadium. This partnership reflects Ticketmaster’s dedication to diversifying content and bringing noteworthy international sporting events to Australia.

Gavin Taylor, Managing Director, Ticketmaster Australia, commented, “Together with Tourism WA, the Western Australian Government and Optus Stadium, we are proud to be bringing such an iconic all-Italian sporting event to Perth. Since this will be the first time two Serie A teams will play each other in Australia, we are set to make history.”

“The Deputy Premier had a clear vision to bring the best of Italian Football to Perth and with the WA Government’s support and Ticketmaster’s global network we are pleased to make this vision a reality and deliver an Italian football blockbuster right here in Perth, Western Australia,”

“It’s hard to think of a better city for Australian football fans to witness an incredible head-to-head match between AS Roma & AC Milan while making a weekend of it in the country's sunniest capital city.”

The Hon. Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia, said, “Western Australia continues to go from strength to strength as a host of international sporting events, as we add yet another blockbuster to our events calendar.

“Hosting a match between AC Milan and AS Roma here in Perth is a fantastic opportunity for us to strengthen our ties with Italy, which is thriving with Australia’s only direct flight connection with Rome.

“International sporting events like this put eyes across the world on our city, help to grow our tourism industry, inject millions into the local economy and support local jobs – a win-win for WA.”

The Hon. Rita Saffioti MLA, WA Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism, said, “We’re very excited to be hosting yet another unmissable football match and bringing two giants of Italian football - AC Milan and AS Roma - to our world-class Optus Stadium.

“These two clubs are known for producing some incredible sporting spectacles. Hosting them here will boost our profile both interstate and across Italy and Continental Europe, as we showcase our vibrant city and the incredible experiences we have on offer for travellers.

“Milan and Roma each have a strong following in Australia, and we expect to see thousands of out-of-state fans travel to Perth from all over the country to watch the action unfold in person.”

Optus Stadium CEO Mike McKenna said the stadium was extremely proud of its reputation as a home of international club football.

"We can’t wait to add these two powerhouses to the impressive list of clubs we’ve hosted including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

"And let’s not forget hosting the mighty Matildas last year when 59,155 fans - our biggest attended football game – watched them take on the Philippines. "
