Coldplay Announce Rising Artist Competiton
Search underway for West Australian artist to support Coldplay at exclusive stadium concert events in Perth, on record-breaking Music of the Spheres World Tour
‘THE GREATEST LIVE MUSIC SHOW EVER’ The Times, UK
With their 2 exclusive Perth concert events both totally sold out, one of the world’s biggest bands, Coldplay, in association with the Western Australian Government, will give a local WA artist a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to open for them on the Australian leg of their Music of The Spheres World Tour.
These history-making events will take place on Saturday, November 18 and Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Perth’s Optus Stadium.
The winner will also secure a $15,000 grant provided through the WA Government Contemporary Music Fund for further development, before taking the stage for their Coldplay support live set on November 18 and 19 at Optus Stadium.
Entries open August 21 and close September 4, with the winner due to be announced on October 2.
To be eligible, entrants must be residents of WA aged 16 years and over and upload a recording of one of their own original songs, as well as a video of them performing live. Submissions can be made at perth.coldplay.com and all entries will be assessed by team Coldplay and a panel of music industry professionals. The final winner will then be selected by Coldplay.
In addition to playing at Optus Stadium, the WA Government will provide grant funding of up to $15,000 through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ Contemporary Music Fund to support the winner with promotional activities which could include recording, marketing initiatives, touring or attendance at industry events.
The WA Government Contemporary Music Fund supports local musicians to capitalise on opportunities for the contemporary music sector and helps develop local, national and international audiences for WA bands.
All competition terms and conditions can be reviewed at perth.coldplay.com.
After a triumphant 2022 where Coldplay sold more concert tickets than any other artist and broke attendance records around the world, the iconic band - who were crowned Favourite Touring Artist at the 2022 American Music Awards - will bring their spectacular stadium show, bursting with lasers, fireworks and LED wristbands to Perth, where they will perform classic hits such as “Yellow”, “Viva La Vida”, “Clocks”, “A Sky Full Of Stars” and “My Universe”.
Since kicking off in March 2022, the Music of The Spheres World Tour has sold over nine million tickets across Europe, North America, and Latin America, receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike, with the Dallas Observer calling the show “mind-blowing” and the Houston Chronicle describing the band’s performance as “pure joy”.
